INTRODUCTION
Premier Personnel Development is contracted by the Ministry of Social Development (Work and Income) to deliver the Work Ethic Residential Training programme.
This programme is a six week residential course for registered unemployed youth aged 18 - 24 years. The aim of the course is to:
- Develop in each participant the attitude employers want.
- Link participants who successfully complete the course, directly with job opportunities, or further training which in turn is directly linked to employment opportunities.
CHOICE & CONSEQUENCE
Choice and Consequence is the strategy used to focus the attention and effort of participants. They learn that poor quality of life and lost opportunities often are a direct reflection of poor personal choice.
PHILOSOPHY
The programme philosophy is to transform the abstract term, "Work Ethic" into tangible work attributes.
First and foremost, employers want people with the right attitude. The personal qualities listed here form the foundation of the attitude employers' demand. Every participant is exercised and assessed on these qualities throughout the programme.
THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Teamwork and competition are major features of the programme. Each team is led by a staff Team Leader.
All participants receive one-on-one guidance throughout the course
Personal challenge (both physical and emotional ), confront participants so as to develop self esteem, confidence and trust.
The programme has a zero tolerance for drug abuse and a voluntary drug test is conducted at the end of the course.
SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES
Maintenance Functions. Participants perform, or assist with all functions necessary to sustain the daily routine of the programme.
Like Skills. Skills fundamental to personal health and welfare are addressed.
Driver Licensing. The programme provides participants with the opportunity to obtain a Learner License.
Physical Training. Daily physical training is conducted to develop aerobic fitness and stamina.
Teambuilding. Emphasis is placed on teamwork throughout the programme.
Extended Outdoor Pursuits. Abseiling, caving, rock climbing and improvised camping are examples of the types of pursuits the programme employs.
