The analyses show that the Serb economy is considerably behind the countries of the region. The work ethics is mentioned as one of the principal factors which obstruct the entrepreneurship (World Economic Forum, 2006).

Besides, the employers identified the work ethics as a principal shortcoming of today’s employees (a pilot survey by CCE, 2007).

Is our society lazy?

No! Our society is divided. There are very bad examples of work ethics, but there are exceptional examples as well, the latter being quoted as the principal advantage of Serbian economy (David Trow, Territorial Senior Partner of Serbia, Price Waterhouse Coopers, November 2004).

Such a division is founded on the fluctuation of the value of work. The crisis of the values compromised even the most fundamental attitudes towards work, while, on the other hand, an “anti-work ethics” arose. Currently, these two opposite life’s wisdoms are coexisting in our society.
