Mexicans have the longest day and Belgians the shortest day , the unexpected result of research among 29 industrialized countries, carried out by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This destroys the stereotype of the Mexican mentality of "manana" (meaning "I will tomorrow").
Mexicans in the average work paid or unpaid work (for example, work at home) up to 10 hours a day. Belgians, on all paid and unpaid work carried out on average, only seven hours a day which is an hour below the average in most other OECD member countries.
The study was conducted on people aged 15-64 years in 26 OECD member countries, as well as China, India and South Africa. The research involved pensioners, and the resting days were calculated, so it turned out to be less working for countries that have long vacations and in which people retire earlier. In Mexico, millions of people are working in the informal economy, often for little money. They take only a few days of every year, working until old age, while the Belgians tend to take more weeks of and more vacations and they retire when they are about 60 years old.
When you take into account only paid work, most Japanese do - on average just over six hours a day. Behind them, following South Koreans and Mexicans. At least the Danes are working for pay - under four hours a day.
Housework is most concerned with Mexicans - an average of more than three hours a day, a minimum of South Koreans - one hour and nineteen minutes a day. As far as concerning cooking, the Americans are doing the least - on average only half an hour a day, and the most Turks - on average 74 minutes a day. |
